LATEST NEWS! Is Crookshanks More Than What He Seems?
Ever thought that there might not have been something quite right about this suspicious character? Strange how Crookshanks always seemed to be in the "wrong place wrong time" scenario? And we are all perfectly aware that he was seen speaking with a large black dog from time to time ... well, here are some new thoughts on why this might be.
I was reading through "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" when i suddenly came across the most interesting creature in the whole book. It's not all that dangerous with a "Ministry of Magic" Classification of just XXX (Competent Wizard Should Cope) but it was from the description of its character and appearance that really caught my attention. As described in the book "the Kneazle is a small cat-like creature with flecked, speckled or spotted fur, outsize ears and a tail like a lion's ...". So far we are looking at a match for Crookshanks, as from the moment we first met him, we knew there was definately something different about him. Apart from the Lion-tail which could have easily been disguised with an invisible-charm before Hermione purchased Crookshanks, his suspicious behaviour with Sirius in his "Padfoot" form confirms a definate concern that Harry and Ron have during their encounter with him. "Kneazles have an uncanny ability to detect unsavoury or suspicious characters and can be relied upon to guide its owner home safely if they are lost. The Kneazle is intelligent, independent and occasionally aggressive, though if it take a liking to a witch or wizard, it makes an excellent pet". All of these clearly fit in with Crookshanks. Not only did he detect Sirius and was talking to him, he also could sniff out the very clever disguise of Peter Pettigew (Wormtail but mostly known as Scabbers)
The moment that Crookshanks met Hermione he took an instant liking to her, and Hermione also took an immediate liking to him. They are perfect for each other, which makes me think that of course there is more than meets the eye. Will we hear more from Crookshanks in later books? Will the possibility be explored of his interesting nature, and rather coincidental appearances in the strangest of places? One other point to note is that the ministry of magic requires the owner of a Kneazle to have a licence to keep it, perhaps this may have been purchased from the shop that Hermione bought Crookshanks from? As I said, there is definately more to him than meets the eye ... what do you think?
